SSE Energy Solutions is a leading provider of local energy infrastructure in the UK and Ireland. We take a Whole Systems approach, providing low-carbon and smart digital energy solutions to local authorities and businesses to enable the decarbonisation of heating, transport and energy systems while unlocking the flex when it is needed most by the grid.
SSE has positioned itself at the heart of the clean energy transition with one of the largest investment programmes in the FTSE-100. Under NZAP Plus, we are investing more than £20bn over the next five years to 2027 and could invest more than £40bn over the decade to 2032.
Why the Solent Cluster and the LIDP?
SSE joined The Solent Cluster to facilitate the development of low-carbon electricity infrastructure in the South of England.
The Solent Cluster provides an opportunity to invest in region-specific activities, supporting business retention and growth and helping to attract new business to the locality. SSE Energy Solutions are also keen to ensure local communities benefit from their activity in the area, with benefits such as access to EV charging, job creation, education and re-skilling for new roles in the sector. The team is collaborating with cluster members, from large energy users to businesses and local community organisations, working together toward shared goals.
Our involvement in the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan project allows us to develop a deeper understanding of the area, the challenges it faces to decarbonise but also the generation capability of the Solent region. Our Engineering solutions have been mapping the possibility of wind, solar and hydrogen assets – on top of looking at the network infrastructure. Not only understanding the environmental impact, but also the social and economic impact that any such proposed solution would deliver. Working with the other partners in the LIDP we are striving to develop a comprehensive plan that fully encompasses the challenges of the Industrial Sector as we move to a greener future.
