The Solent Cluster was one of 13 successful projects in the UK to successfully bid for national grant funding as part of the Government’s Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan (LIDP) competition in partnership with Innovate UK (IUK) to support industrial decarbonisation and emission reduction.
In the Solent, the LIDP grant was complemented by funding from project partners to bring the project total to over £1million. The project – comprised of a team from industry and academia – set out to evaluate public perception on decarbonisation, identify barriers that need to be overcome and opportunities on which to expand to successfully decarbonise the Solent region, making a significant contribution to the overall decarbonisation of the UK.
The Solent is one of the largest industrial regions in the UK, and decarbonisation of industry in the Solent region is therefore essential to meet UK Government Net Zero and Industrial Decarbonisation targets. It also represents a once in a generation opportunity to drive local economic growth and employment opportunities.
In February 2025, the outcomes of the year-long project will be published as a Roadmap and launched at an event at Southampton Football Club on 11 February 2025.
The event will be free to attend for The Solent Cluster partners. There will be a small charge for associate members.
