Supporting coastal stakeholders
The Solent Forum is a non-profit organisation. It is an independent coastal partnership, established in 1992, that provides partnership working and support for coastal stakeholders in the Solent area. The 50+ Solent Forum members include all Harbour Authorities and Local Authorities in the Solent area and Defra, as well as NGOs, businesses and recreational groups.
A broadly based consultative forum, it provides a balanced neutral perspective for the Solent which seeks to integrate coastal and marine management with its networking, conference style meetings, website and newsletters. It offers a unique neutral platform linking people and organisations for the future management of the area and provides a network for closer working relationships on coastal issues.
The aims of The Solent Forum are to:
- Promote, facilitate and support integrated planning and sustainable management of the Solent
- Raise awareness and understanding of the human and natural changes likely to materially affect the Solent area and its interests
- Promote the national and regional importance of the Solent in policy, development and plan making.
Why join the Solent Cluster?
The Solent Forum seeks to integrate different sectors in the Solent including environment, social and business. It sees the Cluster as playing a role in its being aware of activity in these areas in the region and engaging positively. Above all, the Cluster will promote sustainable opportunities for people working and living in the Solent.
The Solent Forum is excited to utilise its news service, website and conference style meetings as a platform for communication for the benefit of The Solent Cluster.
Promoting change for the Solent
The role of The Solent Forum is to network on behalf of other people and organisations. The Solent Forum itself is not a direct producer of products or services, however, the Forum has an important role actively promoting sustainable development.
One of its key objectives is to raise awareness and understanding of the impacts of Climate Change on the Solent and to explore and promote appropriate mitigation, resilience and adaptation measures.
“It is essential for the prosperity of the Solent and the environment to seek opportunities for decarbonisation.”
Karen McHugh, Manager, Solent Forum
