WHO WE ARE
The Solent Cluster is an industry-led body for the promotion of a lower carbon economy across the South of England and wider UK. Anchored in The Solent, it is one of the UK’s most important industrial clusters, with nationally significant infrastructure assets, human capital and a natural geography that make it uniquely positioned to help transition the South of England towards a lower carbon economy.
The Solent Cluster is the only project of its kind in the South of England and is backed by organisations with the technical expertise and global track record of delivering cost effective lower carbon solutions for industry. Together we will establish the area as a hub of expertise and innovation with a focus on hydrogen, CCUS, renewables and maritime decarbonisation. Together, we have the potential to enable the development of new hydrogen and lower carbon energy facilities, capable of creating sustainable fuels for maritime, aviation and transport. Additionally, these facilities could produce lower carbon power or fuels to heat homes, businesses and public buildings in our region and beyond.
We want The Solent Cluster to provide a vibrant community of knowledge and delivery to transition the South of England and wider UK towards a lower carbon future.

We recognise that the real strength of organisations such as ours is their membership and reach. We also recognise that not all may be ready or able to pay an annual membership fee. We have therefore created the Associate membership option. You will receive our monthly e-newsletter and have access to purchase tickets to The Solent Cluster events.
MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA
Our members have an important role to play in supporting the realisation of our Vision for the Solent to become a leading centre for low carbon investment that will grow the regional economy, protect skilled jobs, and create new employment opportunities in the cleaner energy technologies and industries of tomorrow. We have therefore set the following membership criteria to provide a framework to help us consider requests for membership.
To be eligible any applicant must meet at least three of the following criteria.
MEMBERS MUST:
- Align with The Solent Cluster’s Vision and Strategic Objectives.
- Be an active Business, University, Research organisation, Further Education College, Local Authority, or Sector Representative Body that operates
within or has a strong industrial or research connection to The Solent Cluster area. - Be businesses, research institutions, skills institutions, or other organisations directly related to, or within the supply chain of, the Solent’s low carbon economy with a particular focus on hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage, Renewables and Maritime Decarbonisation.
- Be involved in or willing to collaborate, share knowledge, and participate in joint initiatives with The Solent Cluster.
- Actively contribute to The Solent Cluster’s activities, whether through funding, expertise, or participation in working groups.
All membership applications will be considered by The Solent Cluster Membership Panel on a quarterly basis. Decisions of the Panel are final and there is no right of appeal.
Legal and financial due diligence will be undertaken on prospective members and this will inform the decision of the panel.
